Everyone goes crazy at the end of the semester. Now it's my turn.
My husband has strep, my son has an ear infection, and I've got a proposal due tomorrow. I'm running a mini-hospital at home, and all the exertion has caused my joints to flare up. It's a day like today where I just want to give up. But, I know I'll muscle through it, turn the grant in, the family will get well, and I can take a week or two off.
I don't have kleenex in my office to wipe away the tears, but I guess I could tear open a maxi pad - they're pretty absorbent.

There you go. Always have a backup or a plan B
Can you imagine if a male coworker walked in on that? My coworkers are uncomfortable enough with displays of emotion. I can just imagine if they walked in and I had an Always pad stuck to my face!
Hope everyone is feeling better! Happy winter break!
Arrgghh! I am not an assistant prof and I don't have RA, but I am a post-doc with two kids and I can sympathize to an extent. The maxipad will work fine for tears. Good luck and enjoy that time off after!
I just realized you're back. I'm glad, and glad things are, in general, going well for you, though sorry about the house-as-hospital. I hope everybody feels better soon.
my advisor always kept kimwipes in his office for "tissues." they work for a few tears but not for anything full blown or long term! hopefully things got better!!!
