Mr. JP and I are excited about moving to our new university, where we will be in the same department together. A weird side-effect of being a married couple in the same department is this whole email thing. An administrator will email my husband only with critical information, addressing the email to both of us. My husband doesn't regularly check if I'm on the recipient list, so this information doesn't reach me until something annoying happens. The same is true the other way around where I'll be emailed with information and my husband's name has been "forgotten".
I'm sure this is a genuine oversight, but it is still frustrating. We're married as "one" person on a spiritual level. On a professional level, we are two persons and have two separate email addresses!

Yay for moving!
As for the emailing, I would say nip that in the bud as soon as possible. In some cases it may be an oversight. But it's a fast path to viewing you both as a package deal-- which can be quite annoying and professionally stifling, depending on the exact situation.
My husband and I are in the same department and we have different last names; as in, completely different, not even hyphenated. When we were first hired, an accountant put my employment documents in with my husband's, so it appeared that mine were missing (and hence there was a problem with my receiving a pay check) until someone thought to look in my husband's employment folder. Weird.
I agree with the former commenter. I would nip it in the bud by asking the person to send it to both of you in the future.
I completely understant that it must be very annoying for you ! I’m sure that you can just ask to the person in charge to send personalized emails and not “couples’emails”, that shouldn’t take them more time and it will be much efficient.
